My artwork focuses on emotion, memories, and the subconscious. By creating visible images of things that are invisible and intangible, we can look at these ideas from different angles and manipulate them. The living connections between people, animals and ideas become apparent when the subconscious becomes material. My work draws the viewer into a world which looks familiar but where new possibilities of scale and movement exist. This is a world where each gesture and glance communicates emotions.

I work in relief printmaking, carving multiple blocks or using the reduction method to create prints overflowing with color. The opaque colors are layered on the paper, one after the other, building depth within the image. The repetitive nature of printmaking- successively carving, inking, and printing allows my conscious thoughts to fall away and deeper subconscious visions bubble to the surface.

These visions are incorporated into the piece during the printmaking cycle. Surprises and experiments occur along the way, morphing the piece and thus the look of the finished print cannot be foreseen. This makes the end result feel alive. The moment when I pull the paper off the inked block and see how the print turned out is always an exhilarating surprise.

I received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Fine Art from Wheaton College, Massachusetts. I moved to Dallas, Texas in 2013 after living primarily in various parts of Massachusetts.
